I immediately respected Buttersweet (Nancy) after reading her profile and looking through her photostream for the first time ~ Nancy is an elite member of flickr who over the years has put together fabulous collections -her experimental light photography was something I had never seen before and I am still amazed when I look through her sets . I was afforded the opportunity to visit the Slovakia Embassy earlier this year and during my visit I witness the most incredible display of talent by six gifted young pianists. Their renditions of Chopin , Etude, Op 25, No 12 c minor, L.v. Beethoven, Sonata, Op. 13, III mov. In c moll, Liszt, Hungarian Rhapsody, No.2 in cis moll, to name a few, had me both struck with amazement and admiration. I've been drawn to buttersweet's dahlia photos due to my strong impression that, among the thousands/millions of dahlia photos there Must be on flickr, hers stand out in a particular way.. exemplified by her straightforward unpretentious exploration of the blossoms themselves combined with a characteristic sense of movement and playing within the frame-space.. she gives the blossoms full room to move and breathe even when closing in on a fine detail or just one of her color 'crushes'. It's simply seeing, yes, but it is also following what the flowers show her, in a way. That, for me, anyway, is one of the rare top talents anyone has in any art. I'm hoping her work maintains those qualities even as she expresses other qualities along her way. O Would that I could have expressed all that as simply and as powerfully as she photographs! Or maybe I can .. Nancy, I'm swept by the way you show us the sweep of your beloved dahlias. Thank You.
