Several years ago, a good friend of mine died. He left

a wife and three beautiful daughters behind and an entire

community in mourning and trying to make sense of a senseless death. We all said the same things about God working in mysterious ways and it being a blessing that the pain was over and how we needed to be thankful for having known him but for me, underneath all that noise was rage and resentment that God had seen fit to take such a good man.

Not long after his death, I began to think about life and how short it is and that all God's gifts are only on loan to us.

Maybe it's getting older or watching Ran die and being so

completely helpless and at a loss. Maybe it's seeing his children grow up without him or the incredible strength and courage of his wife. Maybe it's just some kind of twisted and angry faith that I would much prefer to deny but all that's left is memory and a few snapshots. So I began taking pictures again.

JM Barrie wrote that "God gives us memory so we could have roses in December." This webpage is of the people and places and things and animals that I love and is dedicated to Ran.
