I've been following Corey Butler's photostream for a few years now and when I thought to write a testimonial it was prompted by some of his recent work, but then I decided that I'd like to give myself a retrospective and go back and enjoy some of my old favorites again. Well, I discovered a heck of a lot of NEW favorites and started seeing a really cool story unfold in his work. In a nutshell, Corey's photography conveys a romance with life's adventures, nature, the sun and the sea and we're treated to some delightful imagery as a result. With a seemingly innate knowledge of photographic mechanics; composition, exposure, etc. and an artist's sensibilities (I happen to know he studies up on photography and I've used his exif data at times to understand what was done to achieve a particular result) Corey has produced an extraordinarily large number of beautiful images and I find it easy to press the favorite button every time he posts a new set or photograph. Much of his work is associated with travel for school and is kind of biographical (not directly through self portraits although he has a few) and through out his travels and across the years you can see there are some tonal themes which have arisen and stayed with him - like his personal photographic core. His work conveys much of its emotion through toning and color choices. He seems to seek out certain colors before processing and we see a kind of patented, "Corey Butler" blue and red that shows up a lot in his work. I would say that Corey has explored many styles of photography from Documentary, design, commercial, landscape, still life, portraits and even experimental stuff like composites and abstracts. His openness to ideas and courage to post something that may not be his forte and may not always work have produced some of his best results in my opinion. Personally I learn a lot from his work and find myself compelled to follow his lead. Here are some examples I've selected that can speak for his brilliance much better than my words: www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... www.flickr.com/ph... It is a joy to follow his photography and learn from his photographic adventures. I recommend you follow his photo stream and see for yourselves. - Sohail
