I like bougainvilleas.

 

My parents used to run a flower nursery specializing in selling variegated, bicolour and exotic bougainvilleas.

 

During the late 1990's which happened to be the 'bougainvillea frenzy' period in Malaysia, we had more than 320 unique bougainvillea cultivars. But much to our regret now, we did not execute sufficient preservation work and many cultivars were lost.

 

I am now trying my best to restore the good memories I have had with these unique cultivars through the collecting and sharing of their photographs.

 

I have seen many blogs or writers verbally describing a particular bougainvillea cultivar but it was real hard for me to actually visualize the true beauty of it based solely on words. In turn, I would have difficulties conveying to the world the different cultivars that I find unique and breath-taking through sheer words (as English is not my first language), thus picture would be the best tool to do so.

 

I do not own or use professional cameras, and my photography skill is nothing to brag about either. But whenever I do come across any cultivar that is awe-worthy, I find that my IPhone comes in handy, though it might not be of the highest megapixels. But I sincerely hope that you would bear with me, let me show you what once made me a very happy boy, and my childhood that much more colorful….
