I'm a professional nature and wildlife photographer who specializes in photographing all aspects of the natural world. In December 2005, after serving 20 years in the United States Air Force working in the clinical laboratory field, I retired and I'm now a full-time nature and wildlife photographer. I photograph all aspects of nature and wildlife, from mosquitoes to mountains, and everything in between. I took my first images in the early 80's and got my first photo published in 1995.

I’m an award-winning nature and wildlife photographer with thousands of national and international credits including publications of the The National Geographic Society, The Nature Conservancy, The Smithsonian Institution, The National Audubon Society, The Sierra Club, The American Horticultural Society and magazines such as Natural History (two cover shots in less than one year), Discover, Texas Gardener (including cover shot), Birds and Blooms, Creation Illustrated (including cover shot), Prairies North (including cover shot), Outdoor Photographer, National Wildlife, American Angler, Fine Gardening, Reptiles, American Gardener, Nature Friend (including cover shot), Photo Techniques, Missouri Conservationist, Homes & Gardens, Texas Monthly, Outdoor Oklahoma, Grit, 2 Million Blossoms, Conservation Magazine, Nature Photographer, Highlights for Children, Gardens Illustrated, Oklahoma Today, Petersen’s PHOTOgraphic, Texas Parks and Wildlife, New Scientist, Oklahoma Magazine, Photo World, Mother Earth News, and more including calendars, greeting cards, posters, books (most of the major publishers), and newspapers (The Oklahoman, Albuquerque Journal, The Guardian), and museum/nature center displays including the American Museum of Natural History, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, the Carnegie Science Center, the Royal Ontario Museum and the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity. My work has also twice been featured in a make-up line from Chantecaille called The Butterfly Collection (Les Papillons). My images were also featured on trading cards found in Bug Bites Milk Chocolates from the Endangered Species Chocolate company. I've even had an image in the 58th Grammy Awards Annual. This souvenir book is the official program for the Grammy Awards.
Check out my cover shots.
After decades of shooting slide film, I switched to digital format in December of 2012 (all images before this time, and loaded here, are hi-res slide scans). I use Nikon equipment and have lenses covering 24mm to 500mm.
A great deal of effort goes into identifying the subjects I photograph. If you are only interested in particular natural history subjects, I recommend you go to the Albums tab instead of wading through the photostream. There, I've arranged subjects taxonomically starting with butterflies, then other insects, spiders, other arthropods, slugs and snails, birds, mammals, herptiles, plants, fungi, and lichens.
If you are a writer of natural history topics, I am always looking for collaborators for books, magazine articles, etc.
To give you an idea of my style, here's a selection of my best images.
