I like a laugh

„Good heavens! How in the world do you come up with all the funny ideas for your jewelry?” I am often asked. Well, it couldn’t be easier, really – wanderings with the space armada of the federation and tea-time chats with Rüdiger inspire me, as does the spirited humor of political discussions on Swiss television. Also the employees and customers of specialised shops enjoy finding time for brief private performance. Amateur actors on trains or at neighboring tables in bars are equally generous with their dramatic and narrative gift. So naturally the pieces of jewelry practically create themselves. Should one of the pieces get smart with me it is very possible that it is dropped under a Zürich tram, hence receiving its final polish.

Working as a cabaret artiste for eleven years naturally molded me. Luckily enough, as a jewelry designer I am equally, if not more challenged by the desire to entertain, to provoke and to approach various topics with a sense of humor. My conceptual work with jewelry is all created for one theme and ends in a story. If my work makes somebody laugh, I am happy.

I am also the founder and owner of the Gallery Friends of Carlotta in Zurich (since 1995). It holds permanent exhibitions of more than eighty contemporary jewelry designers from all over the world. Annual thematic group exhibitions take place at the gallery and since 2005 it is the sponsor of the annual international Friends of Carlotta jewelry award.
