I purchased an Olympus E-410 in February 2008 after 25 years of shooting with an OM-1n and moved up to an Olympus E-5 in November 2012. For a lighter camera, I added an Olympus OM-D E-M10 MarkII in April 2017. My favorite subjects are architecture (particularly houses of worship), travel (domestic and foreign), baseball (particularly the Chicago White Sox) and interesting outdoor settings. In January 2013, I published There Used to Be a Synagogue Here: Former Chicago Temples, featuring 100 photographs from my Flickr collection.
I lived in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago until age 6 (both parents graduated from Hyde Park High School) and on the North Shore until my parents moved back to the city 15 years later. After attending college in Pennsylvania and Boston, I returned to Chicago, where I have resided to date with my wife of 51 years. Our daughter lives four blocks away.
My Flickr name comes from one of the largest lakes in northeastern Minnesota, which took a good few hours to paddle across because of strong headwinds on a canoe trip 60 years ago. I also have a blog, "The View from Brule Lake" (brulelaker.blogspot.com).
