Bruce study photography at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design between 1978 and 1981. He set out as an art photographer, shifting his attention to photojournalism under the guidance of former News of the World writer, Simon Regan. It was Regan who provided Bruce with his occasional nickname, The Litson Lens. Bruce's photographs appeared in a number of local newspapers in South Dorset, most notably the Dorset Evening Echo, between around 1984 and 1994.

There were three significant exhibitions of Bruce's work during his lifetime: in Blandford Forum in 1982, in Dorchester in 1991, and in Weymouth in 1994.

After Bruce abandoned his career in photojournalism in around 1995 he photographed on a more informal basis, mostly for his own interest.

The photographs in this archive are all scans from silver prints hand-made by Bruce unless otherwise stated.
