The 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway remains the most visited unit of the National Park Service system. Winding its way through the highest mountains in the East, the Parkway is like no other roadway – showcasing rich mountain culture, sheltering rare and endangered species, and providing travelers with memorable adventures and enriching experiences.

The future of this remarkable route and the region through which it passes is uncertain. The Parkway is a living and fragile resource, vulnerable to many forces and pressures.

The 75th Anniversary in 2010 provides an extraordinary opportunity to create awareness, initiate dialogue in local communities, and take action that will insure a strong future for this resource. We all have a special responsibility to protect it.
