Key Aspects of the Project:

Scope: He undertook this project on his own, likely as a hobbyist or passion project, focusing on capturing the atmosphere of the original romantic drama.

Context: The original Brief Encounter is a renowned 1945 British film directed by David Lean and written by Noël Coward, set partially at Carnforth Railway Station in Lancashire.

The project was featured in local media around 2004, highlighting his dedication to recreating the scenes.

It is a film classic, a romantic tearjerker about an illicit, doomed love.

Now, Sir David Lean's 1945 masterpiece Brief Encounter is being remade in Stockport.

Steven and his partner, Janet , are spending almost three years recreating the film, which starred Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson.

So far, they have recreated several key scenes on video and posed for hundreds of photographs to match original scenes, but the project will not be finished for another two years.

Steven, 50, has seen Brief Encounter many times. He said, "There's just an aura about that film, and there's no sex or violence in it, just good old essential values

"

l Suppose I am a bit obsessive about it. I want to get every detail right, and I won't be satisfied until it is complete."

Janet, 47, said: "Steve's always been a fan of Celia Johnson. He loves Brief Encounter because he's a real romantic."

To make his film as close to the original as possible, Steven tracked down the same herringbone tweed cloth worn by Celia Johnson and had a replica 1940s suit made for Janet.

Stockport Hat Museum provided a trilby, and he made eight trips to a vintage clothes shop in Haworth, West Yorkshire, to obtain his 1940s suit, overcoat, and gloves.

They then travelled to the original locations, including Carnforth railway station and Cumbria, to recreate the classic scenes on the railway platform and in the tearoom.

A film of the couple on a date at the cinema was recreated in Stockport's Plaza Theatre, which is screening the original on February 20. Box office manager, Peter Johnson, said: "It's a marvellous film and what Steven and Janet are doing is really romantic."
