Hello. Back in middle school (early 1980's), I designed a red Fokker Triplane and drew up my own blueprints on 3 sheets of graph paper. Flashforward to the late 2000's.... a friend told me about BrickLink, I discovered the range of free computer applications online for lego design, and before I knew it, I spent 18 months of free time working on my first project.
I probably should have started with something easy, but I've always been fascinated with the Eighth Air Force and their role in the European Air War during WWII. As a former multi-engine pilot in the USN, the B-17, in particular, has always been my favorite airplane. I could not find an existing example of a minifig scale Flying Fortress in a dark green paint scheme, so my mission was clear.
As of now, the B-17 is my only completed aircraft. I have a complete set of instructions and plans to design a green and silver (using light gray) version for every WWII bomb group. Enjoy the pictures and let me know if you are interested in any particular bomber.
