I am a freelance photographer / videographer in the Kansas City area & have been for 20+ years as of 2011. I shoot assignment/editorial, aerial, commercial, event, wedding, documentation, environmental portrait, food & art for the wall.
Mostly I like to concentrate on the stills, my favorite medium.
Video is fine but you are constantly processing what you just saw & now you have to look at more & process that- immediately.
With a still photograph, you can get lost in it... & move on at your pace.
Currently, I am the lead assignment & cover photog for 3 local publications & a 4th coming on board.
In freelance video, I do live camera work, concert work, corporate video production, training tapes, music video, etc
I cover a vast array of subject matter & enjoy taking a normal scene & twisting it up a bit with an occasional effect like HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography.
**There are many that don't like HDR at all & I say to each their own. It has been called the "Velvet Painting" of this century. My folks had a velvet painting when I was growing up. I thought it was cool as ever.
Well... many velvet paintings weren't just given away... They sold. And now, the vintage ones are geek-cool to have in your apt again. Go figure.
I am an HDR fan but not for every shot. It does great things to a cloudy sky & wood grain. If the photo sucks to start with, no amount of effect will bring it out of that. It is definitely a love/hate subject. Doesn't seem to be much gray area.
Can't we all just get along?
That said, I hope you might take the time to have a look at what I do.
I like a quirky look on life's everyday moments. I love street photography & catching moments that are normally just seen. If I am there to see it, I like to take a little slice of it with me.
Today's digital age has made it much harder to compete commercially than in the film days... when you couldn;t just rack off 20 shots & find that best one & delete the rest.
