Brian’s work is always a joy to see—indeed I go to his photostream when I am tired of trees and beaches and sunsets! His world is totally “peopled.” His portraits of ordinary (and many extraordinary) folks remind me of the grand and beautiful variety there is among the human race. There are no ruins, no rusting cars or closeups of lips or eyeballs. His people are complete (at least from the waist up!), almost always happy, often paired off, usually looking directly into the camera with a smile, a hint of one, or an expression that seems to say that all is right in their world. His portraits of musicians (a specialty, perhaps) sing; his children make me smile. I can’t help thinking that Brian’s world captures the concept of humanism: people-centered, optimistic, and proud.
