I've been very unwell for years with my Mental Health. Since my divorce from Jenny I've been slowly and gradually getting my life together. I lost my huge and lovely studio at Yorkshire ArtSpace and negotiated my debts in return for £3, 000 worth of art-work. to them....or rather a kindly YAS member who remains anonymous.

I only got my studio at Bloc last November and have slowly and surely been back to painting. It's still a struggle but I'm getting there. I've only been back on line for a month now having been unable to face the technology......

I have permanent exhibitions of my work at Sheffield United, A mental Health organisation called IAPT, and lot's of pictures at Fullwood House, the main site for Adult Mental Health in Sheffield. My work was in storage, with a removal company in Rotherham, in containers, and I just let these organisations help themselves.

My new studio is smaller, lacking in natural light, but cosy and accessible. If it wasn't for these permanent exhibitions I wouldn't have room to work.

Yes, it feels like I just popped out for a bottle of milk and 5 years has gone by...................

I'm still....

Artist; driven and work in chaos. I fight for clarity and resolution in my painting. Vegitarian for 15 years and slowly getting to like vegatables! I have long-term issues with courgettes.

BIOGRAPHY

Brian Jackson was born in 1962 in Corby, Northamptonshire. Following the successful completion of a Foundation course at Tresham College, Kettering, he studied Expressive Arts at Brighton Polytechnic, exploring the possibilities as a painter and as an actor, before continuing his studies at Nottingham Polytechnic where he furthered his skills as a painter. His interest in music has been a continuing influence upon his work, both as a guitarist and song-writer himself, and in the collaborative work he has undertaken with his wife, Jenny Jackson, who is a composer.

Brian became a professional artist in 1994 working from his studio at Yorkshire Artspace in Sheffield, where he has been ever since. Much of his time is dedicated to the production of his own work which he has exhibited extensively throughout the U.K and abroad. Solo exhibitions include the Salt House Gallery, St. Ives, Cornwall (2002) and a joint exhibition with Keith Hayman at Diorama, London (2004). Recently Brian had a solo exhibition called Resolution (2006) at Yorkshire ArtSpace Soc. Ltd, and a joint exhibition with Eva Belson called Translation (2007) in Stamford, and he is now working towards a solo exhibition at the Alfred East Gallery, kettering, Northants; opening on 3rd March 2007.

In 1993 Brian completed a Post-graduate Certificate in Education at Bretton Hall which led him, initially, into teaching Art in secondary schools in and around Sheffield. However, it was not long before Brian began to employ his teaching skills in more artist-led educational projects, such as the 150 metre-long mural for the Sheffield Wildlife Trust (2001).

As well as the educational work, Brian has produced many pieces of Public Art, and was closely involved with Doncaster’s ‘Quality Streets’ town centre renewal scheme in 1999-2000, producing a ‘Time-Line’ in over eight hundred hand-carved bricks along both sides of the High Street, depicting local history on one side and world history on the other. Occasional television appearances have included interviews with local news networks and an appearances on the ‘Harry Hill Show’ (Avalon productions. 2003); and a part in the childrens’ television series ‘Adams Family Tree’ (Y.T.V. 1997) as well as taking the lead role in a low budget feature film in London (2002) Most recently Brian has completed four large scale prototype banner paintings for Sheffield City Councils’ Regeneration scheme (2006)

Brian has established a good reputation in the North of England and his work is highly sought after. He has been commissioned widely, including work for the late Duke and Duchess of Devonshire in the form of two murals, one of which is situated in the heart of the Chatsworth House Estate, and the other, which is made of hand-painted fired tiles, in the estate swimming pool at Edensor.

Concentrating primarily on his own painting, Brian is now focused on the production of new work for exhibition; experimenting on a 2 metre x 4 metre and 2 metre sq format and working to commission.
