Hi, my name is Brianna but I go by Bri. As a native New Yorker who identifies as both African-American and Hispanic, I am interested in investigating the culprits of the trauma that I have inherited. Identity, for me, functions as a universally-applicable loophole into the study of culture. Photography and video allow me to recreate memories and depict representations based on the investigation of identity and culture. I am interested in the tension between the “literal” vs. the abstract. It delivers contextual meaning (as related to the study of culture and identity) that allows me to study the culture that responds to it. My recent work focuses on interviewing the small population of African-American students and depicting, through testimonial recordings and portraiture, their experience with diversity at Bennington College.
