In 1990 and already 40 years old, I decided to get certified to dive in the cool, nutrient rich waters of Northern California and spent years navigating through the kelp forests in Monterey. I became a NAUI instructor in 1996 and, with my wife Jamie, also an avid diver, moved to the Big Island of Hawaii and worked as a dive guide to the world famous manta ray night dive until 2012 Now retired my time is spent on, in or under the water with camera in hand documenting the beauty of our island.
My favorite images show interactions among marine life or between marine life and humans. Although the small critters require strobes and SCUBA gear an increasing amount of my time is spent free-diving shooting large animals with ambient light.
