A friend in junior high school got me interested in the medium of photography back in ninety-fifty something. After acquiring a decent folding camera and a crude darkroom in the basement of my house in Rhode Island I was on my way into the world of creating images. It was then the golden age of black and white. I learned by studying images taken by the heavyweights of the day. A lot of the stuff I tried was what I call street photography. At that time I had not read much nor seen the works of Ansel Adams or the other great landscape photographers of the western landscape. But after getting a driver's license, a whole new world opened up and I started shooting black and white landscapes, trees, flowers and animals.

I became yearbook photographer in high school, selling many of my natural light photos of teachers, classmates and school activities. At that time I was using a 35mm single lens reflex made in East Germany. Later, using money from mowing lawns and doing some portrait work, I continued upgrading my equipment. However, it’s a well known fact that the person behind the camera is what really counts.

A couple of years after starting a career in engineering, and moving out west, I resumed my interest in photography and began taking color slides during our travels in California and the west. During the 70's and 80's my wife and I made frequent trips into Baja and that would be the subject of many of my photographs for years. Currently my shooting is done in the U.S or Canada during our frequent road trips throughout the country. My inspiration still comes by studying some of the outstanding images from great photographers, both professionals and amateurs . Like every other subject, one continues to learn to improve.

All of the images I create now are done of course with digital media, but I occasionally will dig into the film archives looking for something interesting from back in the day.
