Artography: you may not know where it will take you.

Definition of art. The expression or application of human skill and imagination, typically in a visual form, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

My definition of photography: What you see is what you get. You try to make a shot as near to perfection without any adjustments with software. There is creativity and skill in taking a photograph as well as creativity and skill in making one. A photograph should depict reality as seen by the camera and the eye of the photographer. Depicting true colors and objects within the image that was captured by the camera. Post processing is part of the process in making a photograph. To enhance a photo slightly, to bring image to be more like the photographer has seen, would be acceptable to remain a true photograph .Changing the colors, sky, shading, or adding pixels from other images is altering the image from the true captured image. this would be moving toward creating art.

My definition of Artography: There is creativity and skill in taking a photograph as well as creativity and skill in making one. The conscious use of the imagination in the production of images. Using any editing tools you can. Changing colors, adding other images, altering any way that your artistic skills and imagination takes you. The results may not in any way resemble reality. The making of an image whose purpose is to bring pleasure to people through their enjoyment of what is beautiful or interesting. Some may think of it as digital art. But because it would contain mostly photographic images, I call it Artography.

I am retired and like photography as a hobby. I don’t get around much any more, so I make do with what I can find. I see beauty in almost anything. So I take photos of things most people would not want to see.

I started photography in my early 40’s. I have enjoyed photography most since digital camera’s. As digital photography improved, my interest grew. I have never had any training in art or photography. I had to teach my self. I like to create something from images not so good. I seem to get direction from what I am creating, so I don’t always know what the end image will be. I use Paintshop Pro to edit photo’s and recently (2015) started using Topaz plugin’s . Topaz has opened new doors to photo editing for me.
