I am a Vietnam veteran and spent a year living with the Vietnamese as an advisor to the 7th ARVN Division Reconnaissance Company. My Sgt. and I accompanied them on all combat operations to provide tactical assistance and to communicate with and coordinate American assistance.

I am currently semiretired after retiring from full-time employment twice. Neither retirement worked because I returned to work a short time after each retirement. My first retirement was in 1997 after serving 25 years as an FBI Special Agent investigating violent crimes. This was followed by 13 years as The Director of Security for North and South America at a major oil and gas company. During those 13 years, I traveled extensively in North and South America, Europe and Asia Pacific. I am now working part-time as an independent consultant for four or five major oil and gas companies

I went back to Vietnam in March of 2014 with my wife. I hired a guide through the Hotel in Saigon and returned to My Tho (My AO about 50 miles south of Saigon.) I found it to be much more built-up than I remembered. I revisited some of the areas we operated in and was amazed by how little had changed in some of the smaller villages in the rice patties and coconut groves. We looked for some of the Vietnamese I served with but was unable to locate any. My Tho still has some great restaurants, and the food was excellent. The trip brought back many memories, some good and some not so good. Overall it was a good trip and I think I resolved some issues. My wife and I were married during my tour and it was interesting to see my wife visualize what she had only imagined before.
