It was Larry's beautiful night shots of Portland - some captured from narrow gaps between houses on winding backstreets of SW Portland hills - that first caught my eye and which showed how observant and skilled he is at seeing and finding shots easily overlooked by others. Although Larry's opportunities to get out shooting are infrequent, he researches and makes the very most out of each opportunity always finding some new vantage point or time of day or year to shoot them, bringing his own uniquely beautiful vision to each photograph.

Unfortunately, I was not a Flickr freak when I was in Portland and only recently discovered it upon my move to Minneapolis. Bnzai9 captures the unseen beauty that we take for granted everyday. Who really takes the time just to stop, and look at the Fremont Bridge? I love a group of photos that can inspire me to love my native home even more, and make me want to run out and visit places I've seen 100 times to see them again through new eyes. It is always a special treat to see Bnzai9 pop up in my Contact's page for I know I will soon see some of the best landscapes (or bridgescapes) on Flickr. His photographs aren't just taken, they are meticulously planned and crafted (and if you don't think they are planned, just look at the times that some were taken). It is interesting to compare the beauty of the mountains, forests and rivers of the Northwest with the man-made majesty of the bridges he photographs; both are so well captured, everything works together, the exposure, the composition, the colors. I have never traveled to the Northwest but after seeing Bnzai9's pictures, it is definitely on my list of places to go.
