My late Father was a professional photographer in the 1950s. Unfortunately he couldn't make it pay so he gave it up as a career and moved into other areas in order to make a living. Photography always remained a hobby of his with his 35mm Agfa camera, with all that fiddling about with focus and light etc. He wouldn't live to see even the first generation of affordable digital cameras but he would have been fascinated by them. Quite what he would have said about the latest smartphones with their superb cameras I just cant imagine.
He used to say when we were kids, "keep your eyes open or you will miss half of the world" How right he was. That flash of colour from the middle of a field is? well what? an old tin can? maybe! but maybe a rare flower. Quickly where's my phone take a picture. Chances are it wont be there tomorrow.
Rather than a photographer who balances and positions each shot, I am a snapper.
I am obsessed by stretches of water, they offer endless depth. Fascinated by the light and the way it falls and produces shadows and sparkling clarity.
The progression of trees and plants especially wild growing plants invigorate me each year. (it seems I take similar snaps each year,) the fascination never seems to die.
I hope you enjoy my snapping hobby.
