...That is, God is wise in Himself, and all the shining wisdom of men or angels is but a reflection of that uncreated effulgence which streams from the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.

I've always been so fascinated by light... Particularly the word glory. Dictionary.com points out a couple definitions that I just love: Majestic beauty and splendor; resplendence. It surprises me. So beautiful yet completely intangible.

One of my favorite things is when morning sunlight falls on still water. The way it dances across the surface is almost overwhelming! I have always thought that it was like glory from heaven manifest on earth!

A couple of years ago, the word "effulgence" showed up on my word of the day. I was immediately captivated. Read this:

Ef*ful"gence\, n. The state of being effulgent; extreme brilliancy; a flood of light; great luster or brightness; splendor.

Isn't that just fabulous?! So perhaps it's a bit obvious why I chose it to represent my photography. Not only do I relish in evening light but I absolutely love capturing the life that radiates from my subjects. I've come to realize that inasmuch as I have been given a 'unique eye' to see life, nothing compares to the glory of God that flows down from heaven. Every bit of my creativity is only just a glimpse into His glory. My hope is that what I see will always be reflection of that uncreated effulgence which streams from the throne of the Majesty in the heavens...

I picked up a Minolta film SLR in high school and used it throughout college. I think I must have spent thousands on film and one hour processing at Wallyworld. I just couldn't handle waiting those couple extra days to send out for developing. For several years I used a small point and shoot digital camera and in the summer of 2006 I finally splurged and bought a Nikon D200. Like most of my interests, I had minimal experience and the camera itself felt like a foreign language. For the most part I've been self taught using my favorite site flickr.

Since you're already on my flickr site, I'm sure you've found yourself wading through bits and pieces of my life. Some of the photos are definitely more formally processed than others. But I know you'll enjoy it. ALSO! Feel free to venture into some of my contact's photostreams.

They really are the ones who have been my inspiration. If you're interested in my photography and style, shoot me an email! I'd love to chat with you. Currently, I am building my portfolio and would love the opportunity to capture your lovely face! ( : info [at] effulgencephotography [dot] com
