Blackjam: Objects of Designed Happenstance is a line of distinctive handcrafted designer jewelry; one-of-a-kind pieces designed to set the wearer apart from the crowd. We specialize in great colour combinations and the highest quality in workmanship using the techniques of bead weaving and embroidery to create show-stopping rings, necklaces and bracelets.
We utilize vintage beads and buttons and parts of reclaimed jewelery, all collected over years, and we search high and low for the best new materials we can find. Every single piece is a labour intensive one off, created with love and containing a little part of us. We hope the person wearing our pieces feels that through the work. Creating such beautiful and intricate one of a kind art pieces is part of the fun and challenge of creation for us, and that's the specialness we pass along to the wearer.
I am Jennifer Morris I live in Toronto, Ont, Canada. Making stuff is my passion. I have been making since I was a kid. I had a lot of health issues as I kid and I learned to entertain my self. This grew into a passion, that then turned in to a career. I attended Sheridan College, School of Craft and Design majoring in Textiles then was a resident of the Textile Studio at the Craft Studios at Harbourfront Centre. Of all the textile arts my true love is and will always be Embroidery. I may try something else but I always come back. I just love needles and thread and what you can achieve with them.
As for Who am I? Well I could write a second person Artist Statement with some deep and esoteric discourse about how my work relates to the cosmos. But if you get down to it I do it because I like to make stuff. In fact I need to make stuff. It’s my constant companion, my passion or some could say my addiction. It's the thinking about what I will do next whether it’s the next stitch, the next bead or colour choice. I love to see what will happen next. The way I work is very intuitive I have an idea about what I am going to do but then in the process of things it changes I go one you see a new path to go down.
