A travel and documentary, photographer with a strong interest in citizen science, mainly Australian rainforest plants. I'm resident in the beautiful Barrington Coast Region of the Mid North Coast of NSW, Australia so there's always plenty of nice places, including many great beaches, lakes and rainforests close on hand.
I've been fortunate to travel to many photographically extraordinary places, not only throughout most of Australia and New Zealand, but also throughout much of Europe, South America, North America, Asia as well as, though to a lesser extent, the Middle East. I've managed to travel in 44 countries to date and I hope to manage a few more before I run out of legs.
Increasingly I've become interested in capturing widescreen landscapes, including Repeated Subject Panoramas, for a bit of creative fun. My travelling lifestyle these days is ably supported by the convenience of a late model IPhone, currently an IPhone 14 Pro Max.
In May of 2023 I traded all my Cannon gear and purchased a Sony Alpha 7 IV with an FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS lens. It is an amazing camera and the quality of images ensures it's an essential tool in my photographic armoury.
When viewing the images of other photographers on Flickr I prefer to focus on well documented images, those with informative titles, tags/geotags and particularly those with interesting and educational descriptions. Through photography as a medium, and the researching of my own photo descriptions and titles, Flickr becomes a daily learning experience.
A large part of my photostream is devoted to my botanical interests, particularly Australian rainforest plants. Other images are posted for documentary, historical and archival purposes, or simply to record travel and life experiences.
Way back in August of 2007 my interest in Australian Rainforest Plants led me to establish the IDENTIFYING AUSTRALIAN RAINFOREST PLANTS, TREES and FUNGI Flickr group, along with it a unique acronymic tagging mechanism which allows one to readily locate images, and in many cases, to track down an identification. That group, as of March 2025, has passed 80,000 identified and tagged images.
See the DATABASE INDEX here.
This system, while by no means perfect, does work well by using the groups specialised acronymic tags in creative ways. It's not however, intended as a substitute for learning how to actually key plants out according to their unique characteristics.
Flickr's uniquely useful 'Notes' facility is an outstanding tool to educate and highlight points of interest on an image and Dopiaza Set Manager is used to automatically group images into specialized albums according to specific tags or criteria.
While your comments and favourites are always greatly appreciated, please don't spam my photostream images with group awards, banners or graphics. Thankyou.
I hope you enjoy viewing my images and thank you for visiting my Flickr photostream.

In 2023 I joined ChatGPT online and since then I've become an avid user of AI engines. I also use Grok, Gemini, Meta and Microsoft's Co Pilot AI engines on a multi times daily basis.
For a bit of fun I asked Chat GPT to write a poem about Black Diamond Images interest in landscape and panorama photography, historical places, travel, citizen science, Australian rainforest plants and fungi and Australian beaches. Please read below.
"Through the Lens: A Visual Odyssey of Landscapes, History, and Nature's Splendor"
In the realm of Black Diamond Images' gaze,
A passion for landscapes, a photographic craze,
From sweeping vistas to horizons wide,
Through the lens, the world is magnified.
Panoramas unfurl, capturing the grand,
Stretching beyond what the eye can understand,
A tapestry of beauty, in wide-angle embrace,
A moment frozen, a scene of boundless grace.
Historical places, steeped in tales of old,
Whispering secrets that time has told,
Through ancient ruins and storied walls,
The past comes alive, within these hallowed halls.
Travel beckons, an eternal desire,
To wander, explore, and set the soul on fire,
With camera in hand, to capture each place,
To immortalize memories, framed with grace.
Citizen Science, a noble endeavor,
To contribute knowledge, now and forever,
Observing, documenting, understanding the land,
Joining forces, hand in hand.
Australian rainforest plants and fungi, a realm divine,
Where lush canopies whisper, and tendrils intertwine,
Through mossy floors, where fungi bloom,
An enchanted world, shrouded in nature's loom.
Australian beaches, where waves crash and roar,
Sandy shores stretching forevermore,
The sun's golden kiss upon the azure sea,
A paradise where freedom and tranquility meet.
In each subject, Black Diamond Images finds bliss,
An artistic journey, a tale to reminisce,
With every click, a story to be told,
Through the lens, a glimpse of a world so bold.
So let us celebrate this creative quest,
In landscapes, panoramas, and places at rest,
From rainforest to beach, and all in between,
Black Diamond Images captures nature's serene.
