My Photography

The roots of my creative photography go back to the mid-70’s when I became enamored with “the photographic life”. I am motivated to create expressive images that evoke emotion from seemingly ignorable scenes. When I work with digital photography I am reminded that I finally have all of the resources one could ever hope for at my finger tips. Never before has it been so liberating to exert complete control over the creative process in a thread of continuity so that a concept materializes as a finished work.

I begin a piece by stilling myself to the point that I open my thoughts to be influenced by the moment. I seek the otherwise unseen, under-appreciated, intimate scene that can be coaxed into a harmonious rendition, however complex or simple that may be. Space is balanced with substance. I declare a piece is done when I reach resolve after weeks or months of distance from the work.

My current work is moving towards finding the chaos, design, light and pattern in nature, architecture, and the human condition. This may sound disparate; however, I strive to create thematic works that speak clearly without distraction. When people see my work, I’d like them to experience the atmosphere surrounding the scene.

My Craft

I perform my photographic craft in two simultaneous realms - training and art.

I prepare archival limited edition fine art prints to the highest modern standards and sell these directly to my cherished customers at Fine Art Shows held year ’round. Further, I will work with agents and decorators to fulfill custom needs from my growing catalog. Individuals may also contact me directly for a private order at bob@bobkulonphoto.com. Lastly, I offer high-quality coordinated note card collector’s sets to make sure everyone’s needs are met.

As far as training goes, I presently offer outdoor workshops, clinics, and 1-on-1 sessions. These are centered in the amazing Southwest in some of the most glorious surroundings in this country. I buttress this with considerable on-site instruction as well as individual workflow training in my personal studio. I am also available for presentations and judging to photographic organizations.

My Location

Originally, I lived in the Midwest - Northeast Ohio. My home is now in St. George, Utah, the heart of it all. Within a few hours drive (max) are all of our renown Southwestern landmarks in Utah, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, and California. That starts with Zion National Park - 45 minutes away.
