Birder, biologist, runner, post-punkrocker, daddy, husband and owner, manager and guide of Kolibri Expeditions based in Lima, Peru - that is me in a nutshell.

I have been living in Lima since 1998, but was spending several months every year in Peru since 1990, travelling, birding, guiding and surveying Polylepis forests in the High Andes. I am particularly interested in threatened birds and I have conducted surveys for a number of threatened species such as Peruvian Plantcutter, Titicaca Grebe, Golden-backed Mountain-Tanager and White-bellied Cinclodes.

I always believed that birding tourism can make a difference to local communities and inspire to protect the habitat where threatened species are, if the same community receives some tangible benefit.

Recently I have become a very active blogger, both describing what we see on our tours as well as providing tips about social media and blogging for birders and nature lovers. My blog is simply called: A birding blog from Peru by Gunnar Engblom. Additionally, in 2010 I started Birdingblogs.com with a number of other birdingbloggers

I also run a website with general birding information from Peru: www.birdingperu.com

Initiator if AvistarPeru - a birding festival in Lima each November for the Peruvian public to become birders and nature lovers.
