"Bilder von der Ruhr" means pictures of/from the river Ruhr. The Ruhr Area in the far west of Germany used to be one of Europe's industrial centers. Although the economic importance of coal and steel has decreased dramatically during the second half of the 20th century, these industries and their social, cultural and architectural remains still shape the landscape of the region as well as everyday culture and self-perception of the people. That's what "Bilder von der Ruhr" is about.
