I've been on Flickr for nearly 20 years. It is (now) the closest thing I have to social media. I used to have an Instagram account as is evidenced by the square mostly selfie images. As I approach 60 and look through my photos for the first time in many years, I realize how fortunate I've been in many ways - but also how naive. I would like to have been the person then that I am now. As Socrates is quoted as saying, "the unexamined life is not worth living."
I considered deleting my validation-seeking gym "progress pics" and other selfies, but they are history - a reminder of who I was and what was (arguably pointlessly) important to me - and to be honest, that I did look pretty good before my injury a few years ago.
I am not a photographer, but I do like to take photographs (So. Many. Photographs.) and have since my mom gave me her Canon AE-1 around 1980. My iPhone holds years of photos that I continue to upload. Cardboard boxes hold several decades of physical photos not only of my own, but also from deceased family and friends, that I plan to triage, scan, and post when I retire. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity. Stay tuned.
