Since I was a young lad I'd been interested in wildlife, birds in particular and had wanted to be able to photograph them. I had a Zenith SLR camera and then a Petri, with a 400mm lens but I couldn't afford the processing costs for all my failures for print or transparency (slide) film. So basically I gave up.
Then came digital photography and the ability to take lots of shots and just delete those that weren't very good. I haven't yet gone down the DSLR and big lens route but have preferred to see how far I can get with a 'bridge' camera.
So it's wildlife photography on the cheap!
My first photos were all taken on a Canon Powershot G9, moving on to a Canon Powershot SX50 HS, and then the Canon SX60HS when the SX50 died on me in July 2015. The quality isn't as good as a DSLR but the equipment is very portable - and cheap!!
