"Throughout history, EXTREMADURA has been, splendidly, Iberian and Roman - the other Rome, Rome in Spain - and Visigothic and Arab, the ancient and taifal [Party Kingdom] seat of the Aftasids, with their old Berber history; then Christian, and the birthplace of great explorers. But we have lived in isolation, following our own way; even, if you will, abandoned. Now, emerging from this disdain, or distance in any case, we cast off the mantle of oblivion to present what no one suspected existed: cities and villages emerging from the night of time, more than ready to live in the light. Towers, castles, fortresses, cathedrals, natural parks of unsuspected flora and fauna, extensions of unknown interior lakes; hitherto unknown and unparalleled splendours of Roman times; defiant citadels, lost corners of the Temple and centres of spirituality.
