Since June 1, 2019, I have lived in a retirement community in the Windsor Park area of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. Inspired by two eighteen-month-old grand-nieces who were curious about the birds and squirrels that came to the deck (at the house I lived in then), in 2009 I took up watching birds and bird photography. Here, when weather permits, I make my rounds on my mobile scooter and take pictures of whatever birds I see. The property is some 160+ acres much of it classified as wetlands. There is a small lake that I visit frequently bordered by an azalea garden with lots of tall and medium-height trees, which I usually refer to as "the woods". I also take through-a-window pictures. I am trying to collect all the species of birds that visit Aldersgate (the retirement community) just as I did before at my Sedgefield neighborhood home. I am surprised at how little overlapping there is. I am alone most of the time but not at all lonely. I am easily drawn into quiet interests and pursuits which provide for me a very rich life.
