I'm a writer and a photographer.
These days my online home is at benlog.net. There you'll find some of my blogging as well as my journalism clips. I write about civil rights era racial violence in the South and present-day efforts to seek justice for those crimes against African Americans. I was a founding member of the Center for Investigative Reporting's Civil Rights Cold Case Project. One of my recent stories is about the police killing of a black soldier in Mississippi in 1962.
Pretty much everything I do now emerged out of things I did on my first blog, Hungry Blues, which I started in 2004.
I was guest editor for the March/April, 2006 Dollars & Sense magazine, a special issue devoted to the Gulf Coast region since Hurricane Katrina. I went on assignment for the magazine to Mississippi and Louisiana at the end of January, 2006.
Photos from my Gulf Coast reporting are here, on flickr (of course).
I'm also in charge of online communications at Management Sciences for Health. Before that, I worked at Physicians for Human Rights.
