I look for trends in soccer that indicate larger patterns. While I appreciate the growing focus on analytics within game situations, like the Castrol Index, Opta, and the new MLS Chalkboard, my interest is in more abstract datamining. Rather than try to encode all the myriad of data points within a single soccer game, I look for patterns that span multiple games, emerging only from a 10,000-foot view.
