I have retired and, so, have the leisure time to indulge in two of my long neglected interests, photography and writing. As to the writing, I am taking a break at this time and focusing (heh heh) on the photography, at which I am a tyro. But, I'm learning.
I have lived all over the US but have lived in San Francisco for the past 23 years and now call it home. It affords all sorts of photo opportunities. Plus, the weather is great.
I shoot with Nikon D90s, which more than fulfill my needs at this time. I have various lenses and acquire them, more or less, carefully. My favorites are Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF ED, Nikon 35-70 f2.8, Nikon 70-300 f3.5, Nikon 50mm f1.8, Tokina AFX 100 2.8 Macro and a Tokina 12-24 f4. I have a few other lenses, including some older (outstanding) Nikons.
I also have Gitzo Tripods and a Kirk BH 1 head and a RRS BH40 head. In addition, I have a gimbaled head, which is handy for big lenses. I also have a couple of big video tripods and heads.
I have acquired a variety of filters, extension tubes and so forth, all of which I'm attempting to learn.
So far, I have met a lot of great people here on Flickr and it's far cooler than I thought it would be. I am utterly amazed at the brilliant work I see here and have learned a lot, already.
I try to get some photos up on a regular basis and enjoy comments and, especially, suggestions and criticisms. I learn from them all.
