I originally began pursuing photography to try and capture my experiences in the natural world. As I became more invested in the pursuit of documenting nature, the resulting images have become more of an expression of how I view all of reality. As an artist, I chose photography as a means for me to express my passion for wilderness and to convey it’s importance in each of our lives. My camera is merely a tool that helps me tell a greater story, one about a world in peril as our ecosystems are continually ravaged. As a photographer, I spend countless hours in the field chasing elusive wildlife, temperamental weather, and fleeting light. I am fortunate if I walk away with an amazing picture at the end of the day. Only a handful of images I capture each year merit a spot in my portfolio. Immersing myself in nature has become a way of life, and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and I am excited for the experiences to come; the ability to capture these rare moments and to share them with the world fills me with enthusiasm for life and the motivation needed to use my work towards conservation and environmental awareness efforts.

I am proud to say the art on this website are photographs; real life moments captured using todays current digital and large format film camera systems. I primarily use Canon digital SLR cameras and an assortment of lenses, but I also dabble in traditional large format film (specifically 4x5). All of my photographs are processed in Photoshop, today’s digital darkroom. Most photographs fall short of reality directly out of the camera and consequently need processing to make them appear as our eyes saw the scene. The vast majority of the images presented here are comprised of one photograph with modest adjustments of contrast, tonality, and color in order to remain true to the scene. Occasionally, it is not within the cameras capability to capture the entire tonal range of scene and I resort to using multiple exposures manually blended together to achieve a tonal range similar to what our eyes can see. Nothing has been added to these images nor has anything significant been removed. All of the places, light and subjects seen in these photos are real. Processing allows me to impart my personal emotional response to the subject, the scene, and ultimately my experience to each photograph.

I hope you all enjoy my portfolio and may my images inspire you to immerse yourself in nature.
