Hello, I am a working photjournalist at the Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield, Ma and also a hobbiest when it comes to wildlife photgraphy. Newspaper work can be kind of dry but I included some of my more quirky photos, ones that I think are different. All of the photos on my stream are "found" except where I note they are portraits. That means they are all slices of life and not set up.
Most of the wildlife work was part of a museum show that used wildlife as a medium to explore color fields and the environment. I love close shots of amimals in nature, but that is not what I am good at or trying to do here. I want to get a sense of place.
In my daily work, there is a great deal of optimism and humor, I hope that you like it and get a chuckle. We work quickly in Newspapers and I personally carry very little equipment. I am not opposed to flash but I use it about once every 2 months, prefering to make the best out of natural light.
Most of the work you see is from Berkshire County in Massachusetts, USA unless otherwise noted. My goal is to share with you my photos, technique and to give you an idea what small town America looks like. As a Journalist, I do cover some fires, crime and the like , but I probably won't include that work here.
While journalism strives to be objective and honest, it almost certainly has a point of view. Newspaper photgraphers strive to keep that pont of view objective as much as they can, at least conciously. There comes a point in ones career when you take a stand and make a statement. Instead of making pictures that are objective, you make pictures with an objective. It is a scary and dangerous leap, but the best works comes from this palce.
I enjoy so much of what I see here on Flickr but I am enamored with peoples snapshots and glimpses of the places they live
