Becky's Fund was started in November 2006 and subsequently achieved Non-profit status in March 2007. As a college student, she saw first hand the effects that domestic abuse had vicariously by working with criminal law attorneys who specialized in acquitting battered women that had been imprisoned for killing their abusers in self-defense. Through the stories of these women, she was inspired to embark on a career of her own, in raising awareness of and working towards the prevention of domestic abuse.
She competed on "Survivor: Cook Islands” because she wanted to use her feature in the show as a platform to national awareness on the issue. She achieved being a runner-up on the competitive show towards the end of the regular season and used her entire prize winnings to fund the initiative behind Becky’s Fund. In addition, she aims to raise awareness to the lack of reporting of domestic violence cases in the Asian community.
