Britta deConinck Smith was born on the Canadian prairies. Spending summers at the family’s farm, showing her horses in dressage across Canada and the USA, and attending school in Toronto during the winter. Following study at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Britta spent four months taking in the work of the greats on an inspiring tour of Europe. While for many years she painted landscapes and portraits recreationally, her semi-professional work started unintentionally. During her time as a veterinarian assistant, the artist began exploring pet portraiture for clients, bringing a sense of realism and personality to them that she quickly became known for.

Now, increasingly focused on growing personally and as an artist, Britta is committed to defining her own style and voice.

“Creating fulfils something inside of me that nothing else does. It’s just something that I do, and it’s a bonus and an honour if one of my pieces stimulates someone in any way.”
