A little background
My connection with photography has always been enhanced because of a story my father told us when we were younger. My dad's first grocery store was located in the Richmond District, San Francisco during the late '60's and early '70s. One of his many customers was a scruffy looking, older gentleman with longish white hair and a beard. My dad thought he was a hippie. One day, this man asked my father if he would like a black and white photograph as a token of appreciation for delivering quality groceries to his home on a regular basis. My father kindly declined the offer because he didn't know what he would do with such a gift.
It turned out that my dad's longtime customer was Ansel Adams! My sisters and brother were speechless when my dad told us this story...our family could have had an original Adams print! I always take heart in the fact that it was because of my dad's kindness and hard work that Mr. Adams was generous enough to offer him one of his prints.
