Raging novice.
I have great admiration and self loathing while looking through some of your great work here on Flickr. There is some awesome talent out there. Sure, there is a billion boring shots like mine, but there are breathtaking shots too. It is both discouraging and inspiring exploring Flickr. I stole so many ideas from you people though , and I want to thank you all. That is why we are here right? Oh, and to try and get gushy comments, got it.
I carry on despite my lack of taste and limited artistic visions..
Speaking of bad taste, here is my list of annoying things about Flickr: I just need to vent these. Nobody else will.
1) Shots with lens flare. I hate them. I don’t get it. Looks washed out and awful. Maybe it is because I am not “artsy.” If that is art, I don’t want to be artsy.
2) Girls who post 500 shots of themselves. You are cute, we get it. Maybe if I was good looking I would do it too. And stop with the cell-phone shots making Anime faces. You are a human being wanting to be a cartoon? You and your hearts and teddy bears. It is sickening. OK, one shot is fine. The other 499 were redundant. Yes, you are adorable OK? You win. Now go take some pictures of something else will ya? You are way too obsessed with your cute face. It’s rude. Rubbing our noses in it like that. You look like you want to make love with yourself.
3) There are only positive comments on pictures. Three billion of them in a row. You people are so damn nice. I am not saying there should be photo bashing, but a “constructive criticism” once in a while might actually help someone become a better photographer. Point out what you didn’t like, it won’t kill anyone.
4) And those of you who only mention strobist notes? You annoy me too. While it is wonderful that you share your lighting secrets I wanted to know about all the other aspects of the picture. Tell me the story behind it. I suppose all you care about is what kind of strobe it was and how many feet away, but I like hearing about the background story of your pictures, the idea, and where did you find that model? Did you have to pay her? I don’t care where the strobe was. Maybe that is my problem.
5) Untitled pictures. You mean to tell me you can’t think of one? That is pathetic, there is no excuse. The titles are really important and they are so fun and so damn easy. You people don’t deserve to be photographers if you can’t think of a title. Give me a crack at it, I guarantee you a title. A good title can rescue a shot! Make a boring shot acceptable. How can you pass that up?
