Like many others, I started taking photographs as a young lad with a Brownie 127. But photography was an expensive hobby in those days whereas now - once you've got the equipment you want - it costs virtually nothing other than the fuel to take you where you want to go.

Having spent most of my career as a professional publicity manager, working with some of the best photographers in the business, I now enjoy simply taking my own pictures of the subjects that I like. These include landscapes, seascapes, and interesting buildings, along with the occasional macro.

I have an old Nikon D7000 with a lot of lenses and other equipment. It was a good camera. But technolgy has vastly improved, and I am now mostly using my cameraphone, a Samsung Galaxy S23+, as my main camera. This is amazingly flexible and has an excellent camera and good processing ability. There are some drawbacks, as there are with most cameras. It's a case of knowing what it can do well and what it can't. But the best thing is that I can just put it in my pocket rather than being weighed down with a load of equipment.

I like to work quickly and produce variety rather than lots of similar repetitive pictures. I also like to provide an informative caption, which I know at least some people find useful.

We live in Northamptonshire but spend a lot of time at our holiday home in the far north of Lancashire, where we are near the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales with the Forest of Bowland to the south.
