I am one of The Amazing Secret AngIels. We are a group of flickr photographers who volunteer our background computer power to humanitarian research. Together our individual contributions are making a big difference in areas such as cancer, AIDS and world hunger.

The system works by using spare capacity on our computers to process secure raw data and then returns results to a central server. Everything is handled automatically by a small piece of software provided by the World Community Grid charity – you simply download it and it takes care of itself. You may have heard of SETI@home, this works in the same way but looking for answers rather than aliens.

The widget works in the background using only spare capacity and gives priority to whatever else is running, so it only runs when there are resources that nothing else needs. At this moment for example, what you're doing is browsing the internet and that ties up hardly any computer resources at all, leaving lots of capacity that the widget could be ‘mopping up’.

When you add together all the time that everyone wastes on flickr, that's a lot of mopping up! Even with the smallest of individual contributions, together we can make more of a difference than the largest computer in the world – that is what is truly Amazing.

We'd be delighted for you to join us!

I did not realise how much I missed his work until he was away for some time. I kept going to his photo stream hoping to see that he was back . It;s good to see you back here again in Flickr, Bay ! Thanks for the food for thought. Much of what I had wanted to say about Baywhale had been very well expressed by other Flickr friends of his. But I still have this to say, You're great !

Bay your work is sublime, and you are also outstandingly nice. To have both in the same person I think gives your work an edge that is truly wonderful. You make flickr a much richer place than it would be without you.

what should i do without bay? :)) he is an always helpful flickr-friend, a cordially and thoughtful observer of his friends work - his friendly and humorous way to communicate is a great gift. his empathic work as artist is outstanding: bewitching, harmonic, enigmatic and subtle compositions - sometimes opulent or intricate, sometimes like gossamer poetics. in bays exraordinary sets you discover not only breathtaking pictures but also a keen thinker and creative writer. thank you bay for sharing this 'bundle' of inspirations and enjoyment :))

Baywhale is a kind of shaman master of abstraction. His works are like meditations into the soul of existence itself. His vision leads you from massive chance explosions to finer and finer nuances of perception and thought. And takes your breath away in doing so...

Baywhale is what defines 'originality'. His sensitivity towards his work is evident and shines through each frame that he captures. He doesn't just 'look' .. he 'sees' things; and we are both fortunate and blessed that he shares his vision with us! Thank you Bay! Thank you so much for the inspiration!!!

Baywhale's work has the ability to make you first look, and then pull you in with tremendous force. One can sit with any(I mean any) of Baywhale's pictures for hours together looking in... finding a new world. Baywhale has been such an inspiration, with his works and words. Thank you much, Bay.
