I'm a traveling surgical tech. Since my days in the Army I've been a bit interested in photography. I had an old Kodak point and shoot 35mm film camera then and took some decent photos, I thought. I bet I took 5000 pictures with that thing. I was fighting the fires in Yellowstone in '88 and lost it somewhere, with some really good pictures on the roll.

I (incorrectly) thought there was nothing worth shooting back in Arkansas when I got out of the Army and my interest faded.

Since I decided to take up traveling I thought I'd buy a new camera. A 'real' camera. I got a Nikon D40 and I just can't stop taking pictures. I think about it day and night. What new places can I shoot, what new techniques can I use. Where can I travel to next that has great spots to photograph. That was a major factor in my decision to go to Arizona next. I'm taking quite a cut in pay just to be close to Sedona and the Canyon.

Everyone here on Flickr has been really helpful and very inspirational. SO many great photographers on here and most are very willing to teach a newbie their tricks. Thank you everyone!

I'm very proud to call Mike my friend. I admire him so much as a person and now as a photographer! I never knew he had such talent in him, but at the same time, I'm not surprised. When he takes on something, he surrounds himself in it until he is an expert! Mike has more integrity in one little pinky finger than most people have in their entire body--and being that he's a nurse/surgical technologist that is a very good thing! As a student and a new employee in surgery I learned so much from him and have always been impressed with his honesty and abilities. I'm so glad that he decided to come to flickr and share his adventures with all of his friends back home. I'm guessing that I'm not the only one living vicariously through his travels.
