Since its foundation in 1990, eabh supports research into all aspects of banking, insurance and financial history, from the earliest innovations in the middle-ages to present-day-developments. eabh maintains a European network of professionals and academics with the aim of strengthening the understanding of banking and finance. In doing so, we contribute to the effective management of the European financial sector and consequently its international competitiveness.

Banks, insurance companies and further European financial institutions are members of eabh. In recognition of their responsibility for a sustainable and effective financial sector, they advance academic research in the field. They benefit from eabh conferences and publications, which offer an opportunity to learn from the past in order to successfully deal with the challenges of present and future. The second group to benefit from the work of eabh consists of archivists and historians active in the field of banking and financial history. In order to support the present-day financial sector, it is necessary to maintain an accurate, accessible, and relevant record of past activities and experiences. eabh supports the art of the archivist, thus supporting the circulation of sound information, upon which decisions about the present challenges can be made.
