A brief tour through my photos will show you that what I love the shoot the most are nature and landscapes scenes. I have a particular love for waterfalls and am a self-confessed waterfall-aholic. When I hear the sound of falling water in the woods, I'm already pulling out the legs of my tripod getting ready to shoot.
I joined Flickr in September 2005 and since then I've learned a lot about taking a better photo and maybe even a great photo once in awhile. There are so many wonderful photographers here that are willing to share their experiences, techniques, etc. with the rest of us. That makes time spent on Flickr not only fun, but educational.
I've also made several new friends that I get together with outside of Flickr and go shooting, hang out, etc. This truly is a community of great people, passionate about photography.
Thanks to all those who inspire me daily with their genius.
*NOTE: I really appreciate all of the people who visit my photostream on a regular basis and leave wonderful comments. I try to reciprocate and sometimes I don't do a very good job. Just so you understand how I tend to do things, I might not visit you for several days, but when I do, I like to comment on several photos while I'm there. So what I don't do in frequency, I hopefully make up for in quantity. :-)

Wes was my inspiration to become a better photographer, as his photo stream was the first that I found on Flickr that made me wonder how he was creating these awesome photos. I think his work is awesome and I could not believe it when he first commented on one of my photos; it was such an honor. Now that I know Wes fairly well I want to let everyone know he is as great as a person as he is a photographer. Very few people have inspired me the way Wes has done.

I somehow came across Wes' site here a LONG time ago, well before I ever considered joining Flickr myself. I was so impressed with his work that I bookmarked it and continued to check it out occasionally just to see what great new stuff he had posted. There are only a few photographers who I can say that about! Eventually, an acquaintance who was also familiar with him encouraged me to join Flickr and the NAPG group which eventually led to getting acquainted with Wes, who also encouraged me to join. That encouragement and his truly kind comments, not only to me but also to many others which I read, convinced me to join. I have really enjoyed being on Flickr and especially the NAPG because of Wes and others like him! Thanks, Wes!

Especially the water, and most especially waterfalls....he is one of flickr's finest in this arena. Of course that doesn't even begin to describe his versatility as an artist....glorious sunsets, beautiful portrait's, photojournalism...etc.. He has a great sense of humor, and that is quality that we all can appreciate. He is also generous with his comments, advice, and so encouraging for all levels of photographers. His contributions to development the North Alabama Photographers Guild and administrating therein are a more than measure of the generous kind of person he is. Always inspiring, and creative, he has brought the art of photography to a new level.

His work inspired me while trying to capture some waterfalls myself and hoped they would be half as good as his. All that and he's a nice guy with a great sense of humour and I'm happy to call him a friend :-) Geez!!! Would it have killed Mike to say just ONE nice thing to you??!!

This weekend I was telling a local professional photographer about flickr and all its wonders. I remember the very first photo I saw was Wes' "The Night Shift." Not only was I blown away by the shot itself but this was were I lived by a photographer from North Alabama. Looking through the rest of Wes' work left me in awe. I had always thought of myself as a pretty good local photographer and wow was my ego up ended. But having met Wes what strikes me most is the energy he puts towards his work and photography in general and in such a selfless way. He strives to make us all better donating his time to meetings and shoots giving wonderful and well needed advice all along the way. His passion for photography has inspired me as I am sure others in our area. Wes hopeflully will move on to bigger and better things- a book, staff photographer for a famous magazine; something where every one can see the wonders of his work and not just flickr. I wish him all the luck any one could ever have in photography because he truely deserves a place amoung the greats and hope one day just one of my shots can be as good as any in his photostream.
