I've been taking photographs since 1972, and shooting video since 1986. I have over 23,000 photos and almost 100 internet movies on my personal websites, mainly travel shots taken around Southern California, where I live.
I favor architecture and nature shots, usually with a generous abundance of clouds. If I have a style, it's making an attempt to shoot usually populous places without any people in them. I use to favor perspective shots angled from the ground up. In 2021 I got a DJI Mavic Air 2S drone, and now I seem to be favoring perspective shots angled from the sky down, but close enough to the subject so that on first view, you might not even think you're looking at a drone photo.
I just upgraded to my first professional camera, a Canon EOS R5. Before October 2024, I shot with my Canon EOS-R, purchased in early 2020. It replaced a Canon EOS80D which I've had since late 2016. My first DSLR was a Rebel T5i which replaced two earlier point and shoot digital cameras, a 2.7 Sony Cybershot and 3.0 Olympus. I cherished my number 6 rating of California photographers on the old Webshots site. I signed up on Flickr account in 2012 and have uploaded some of the folders I displayed on Webshots, and add new folders as I take more and more 'Photo Expeditions'. I now have over 100 themed albums, organized by date and place, on Flickr.
The first folders were "photo dumps" but since 2017 I've been attempting to curate my Photostream so that I'm showing a varying mix of my images as I process them. I discovered HDR (high dynamic range) processing in late 2015 and usually shoot 3 exposures of everything now. At first the HDR images were "overcooked" with loud colors, but as I progress I have been told I am quite good at HDR now, and since 2020 I've been experimenting with focus stacks of nature shots, handheld, also HDR, plus using Topaz' line of AI processing products to reprocess older photos taken with the Cybershot.
I turned 71 in May of 2024 and as of November of 2022 finally retired. I've begun actively traveling, and as I write this in November 2024 I've taken trips to Utah, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, and internationally to Portugal, Japan, Czechia, Austria, and Hungary. I hope to travel around the world with my camera . I like to say I'm still learning, and have really been energized the more I learn.
I use a number of photo editing programs to enhance detail and color in my photographs. I begin most images with the three exposures shot on AEB in the camera on high speed shutter, then use Photomatix Pro for HDR and Photoshop CC for RAW processing. As mentioned above I am presently using Topaz Photo AI, and Gigapixel when processing older images. Even the drone camera shoots AEB. I shoot 5 exposures, and use the same programs to process.
I also post timelapse movies, some monochrome treatments, and composite artwork using my photos.
I can't call myself an 'amateur' anymore as I have sold the rights for a number of my photographs. Contact me at

I also have a Photo Prints store online. I add new albums and galleries to the website on a regular basis.
