B. András - Digital Photography

Special Events, PhotoJournalism, Fine Art

Born in 1978, grew up in Kolozsvár / Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania (Eastern Europe), where I studied over 4 years of Horticulture, with the goal to become a Landscape Architect (a creative combination of alive nature and functional exterior design - a form of living visual art).

I also got my bachelor's degree in my home town - which is supposed to make me officially an Artist(?)...

Spent some time in Budapest, Hungary, then moved to Chicago in 2002.

Photography started for me in my teenage years, early twenties, as an "addiction" to collect memories of people and places dear to me, as a way of always keeping them close to me, regardless where my life might take me (or them)...

After a few years spent in Chicago, I've met two veterans of the industry, who after seeing some of my photos said that I seem to have an eye, a feeling for capturing images, incouraging me to continue, and so, after becoming the assistant of one of them and learning everything he had to teach, I also became a second shooter for a Chicagoland area studio chain, for which he worked as a director of photography. After a few years of improving my skills by working with experienced professionals and learning from them, I began taking on my own assignments, and it got to the point where sometimes I end up offering work to those who thought me everything I know.

And so, now it slowly became my job to catch little wonders, lights and shadows, glimpses of reality, things that other people tend to overlook. And while some of these same people might laugh at me because I'm "different", I would smile back because they are all the same... :-(

There's nothing more rewarding, by the way, than seeing a client wiping away tears of joy after looking at some of the memories I helped them create and hold onto forever...

Presently, knowledgeable of my many imperfections, I am very opened to criticism and am a constant student of life, which turned out to be the best teacher when it comes to survival and real human values (often contradictory terms in this modern-day savage, greedy, overly selfish capitalistic jungle we call society) and how to find the best compromise on how to keep my strong principles while trying to find a decent way to survive, but also struggling to make a difference too, by creating and/or being a part of something bigger than myself (that's how I got involved in photojournalism in 2008)...

In case you wish to help, please feel free to come along, join me for the ride... At the end we might not arrive anywhere, but we might still see, learn, or even achieve some amazing things on the road... One of the most important lessons I've learned is that if you have an open mind and heart, you can find inspiration in the most unexpected places, and there's nobody who couldn't teach you something, if you're really willing to learn...

Special Thanks to My Mother for introducing me to photography, letting me use her father's old 35 mm russian film camera and most importantly, giving me the virus, that makes me want to take better and better photos every day.

Oh, and for being supportive in every silly little endeavor of my teenage years in the search of... myself... (search which will probably never end as long as I live)
