A seasoned expatriate, I've spent 25+years around the Middle East.
I've been taking snaps since I was 11, but got into photography seriously from around 18 with my first Pentax SLR (A3) and a couple of years later got a Lubitel 166 TLR which is a fully manual camera that taught me all about exposure. see www.lomography.com/lubitel166+/ for details.
Past cameras owned:
Kodak Instamatic 277x - uts.cc.utexas.edu/~ifex534/cameras/277x.html
Kodak Ektralite 10 - insects.ummz.lsa.umich.edu/~mfo/110/index.html
Zenit E - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenit_(camera)
Pentax A3 (Film) - www.camerapedia.org/wiki/Pentax
Got into Digital Photography in its infancy with a Casio QV series featuring 1/4mp capture - ooh, wow!
Pentax Optio 430
Canon EOS 300D then 350D then 5D2 then 60D
Unfortunately some scumbag stole my 5D and L lens collection from my car :o(
Now shooting with a Canon EOS 5D3 with kit lens

And it makes it that much better when I receive a good vote from you because I know you're being honest. Just wanted to let you know that I like your photos and value your opinion. As a very new photographer, I look up to you and few others here on flickr.
Read lessin baldrick2dogs photo stream i see great color, dynamic compositions, interesting subjects, and a smorgasbord of exotic cities.... thanks for helping me see places i haven't seen but might.... keep 'em coming...
I have just finished the fairly Herculean task of viewing Alan's entire photostream. I am pleased to report that not only have I been enriched by going to places I would otherwise never have seen, the quality of his imagery is consistently first class. Do yourself a favorite and take a really close look here.
