I'm an amateur at best, but we all have to start somewhere, right?

Friend of the Night by AyellowDay

I'm in that transitional age of 19 where I feel like the entire world is against me. I can admit that I don't have huge problems...I just have about a million tiny ones. From friends who take more than they give, to the usual problems at home, it's very easy to grow bitter, but along with drawing and music, photography is just one more thing I have invested in to numb the stress. It gives me something else to focus on. (Please excuse that horrible, unintended pun.)

I've been interested in photography before I even knew what it was. I often took pictures of clouds on throw-away cameras knowing I'd never see that exact same cloud ever again.

Times changed, and what's a teenager in this century without a digital camera? I was fortunate to finally get one for my birthday a few years ago - a little Polaroid. It went everywhere with me and I started getting into the idea that photography was an art form, but I still didn't know anything about it until I took a course in my high school where I learned what an SLR was, ISO and aperture settings, darkroom, ect ect...

It was at that point where I realized just how bad off I was. I was faced with a room full of people with far more advanced cameras than me, better ideas than me (and to think it was just a beginner class). It was beyond discouraging for most of the year, but I kept at it.

After graduating, and with no interest into jumping head-first into college, I never once stopped pursuing what I had learned throughout the year and took the entire summer of 2009 as my subject. I documented everything I could.

Then, December of that year, after many months of pleading and a couple hundred dollars saved up, I finally got my first DSLR - my Nikon D3000. I've brought it just about everywhere with me since. I've improved dramatically since owning it, and I'm looking forward on continuing to get better.

So, that's my story, and if you'd like, feel free to add me as a contact. I'm always looking to meet new people and share experiences and photos - it's a part of growing as a photographer.

My Equipment:

I use a Nikon D3000 & a Flip Ultra HD (video).

For editing, I use Photoshop CS2 & Picnik.

Random Facts:

I live in Las Vegas, but you won't see a lot of The Strip in my Photostream, not now at least...

My favorite band is KoRn. I have followed them for nearly 8 years and am currently embarking on a photography project involving all of their songs.

My favorite types of photographs are rain, snow or night shots - particularly rainy night shots. But really, I enjoy just about anything out of the ordinary that catches my eye. I like photos with a lot of clarity and attention to lighting - something I lack, but am working on.

On Picnik, my favorite editing effect would have to be cross-process. I've had to hold back using it several times.
