My name in Andrew Walker and I'm from the UK, though I don't spend much time there these days! I'm a bird tour leader for Birding Ecotours (www.birdingecotours.com/) and spend most of my time in Australasia or Asia where I lead most of my birdwatching tours. I also lead the occasional tours in Europe and spend my free time birding in North, Central, and South America and Africa. World birding is my big interest and I've seen over 5,000 species. I keep a sporadic blog here with details of my birding trips: awbirder.blogspot.com/

I don't consider myself a photographer really, seeing and finding birds is my main priority, though when the opportunity arises I do like trying to get a photo, often just a record shot but if conditions allow I'll obviously try and get the best photo I can manage. I started out grabbing record shots on my iPhone through my Swarovski ATX-95 telescope, then brought a Panasonic Lumix (had two models over about 6/7 years), and then last year moved to a Canon 7D Mark ii with a 100-400 mm lens (which I love!). The upgrade in camera gear has resulted in better photos and I'm pleased to have got one or two nice photos. I'm very thankful to the people who have given me pointers along the way to help improve things.

I am extremely lucky that my job takes me around the world looking at beautiful birds. Sometimes I get client who like to take photos, which sometimes allows me to do so too, other times it's more about racking up a long list of species and so getting photos of birds is not a priority, or even possible. So it is just a case of seeing how it goes each time.

All birds photographed here are 100% wild, most are taken while out birding when photography is second to actually observing the bird. A few photos are taken at stakeouts, but most are taken during the course of 'normal birding activities'. I generally don't sit around one bush all day (or longer) waiting for one bird to come to it.

I'm gradually adding albums for each country that I've got bird photos for. For starters I've added one album for each of the continents I've visited to showcase a wide variety of birds - over 1,200 species, I will then be uploading other albums as and when time permits. Each album is in taxonomic order following IOC (see www.worldbirdnames.org/) and gives a photo of all species I have photographed. As mentioned above some are good, most are average, and some are terrible, but are record shots - occasionally of very rare birds!

I hope you enjoy my photos and let me know what you think and let me know if you fancy a birding trip somewhere either on a DM here or email through the website: www.birdingecotours.com/ Please mention that you saw this Flickr page - thank you!
